- Insights into Hansgrohe’s company history
From private household bathrooms to socialist public baths
Did you know that in times long gone, some wedding ceremonies were conducted in wash tubs? Have you ever thought about the ideal height from which shower water should fall? Have you ever seen a DIN standard wet room from the GDR construction series 70 (WBS 70)? Find and experience all of this in the Water-Bath-Design Museum in Schiltach. Whether viewing a modest post-war bathroom or a psychedelic tiled design from the hippie era, the exhibits tell a thousand and one stories from contemporary history – right through to today’s digital age.
Luxurious baths, porcelain bowls and other show-pieces
Views on hygiene at the time of the German Empire and the democratisation of bathrooms in the 1920s are enthralling. The archetype of today’s shower, a dual-tank unit, is simply splendid. The designs of the toilets and dressing tables of elegant ladies from the aristocracy and upper classes are truly sublime. Our predecessors’ bathroom habits provide a fascinating insight into their respective epochs. As is immediately evident when passing through the replica bathroom landscapes, there has always been more to bathing than just getting clean.
